Recycling Stages

The recycling of WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) includes several stages, which ensure the proper management and treatment of this waste. The main stages of the process are as follows:
  • Collection:

WEEE is collected through special collection points, such as recycling centers, stores selling electrical and electronic devices, or through special collection programs by municipalities.

  • Transport:

After collection, WEEE is transported to sorting and processing centers. Transport is carried out in specially designed vehicles to prevent destruction or leakage of hazardous substances.

  • Screening and Preprocessing:

At these centers, WEEE is sorted according to its type and category. This is followed by pre-treatment, in which hazardous materials such as batteries, light bulbs and some plastic parts are removed.

  • Disassembly:

At this stage the devices are disassembled. The various components are separated and categorized based on their material, e.g. metals, plastics, glass, etc.

  • Processing Materials:

The disassembled materials are further processed. Metals are recycled in metallurgical plants, plastics can be reused to make new products, and glass can be melted down and reshaped.

  • Disposal of Remains:

Waste and non-recyclable parts are disposed of in a safe and environmentally sound manner. This includes burial in specially designed landfills or processing in incineration plants with energy recovery.

  • Reuse and Recycle:

Materials recovered through recycling are reused to make new products, thus reducing the need for raw material extraction and production.

* These steps ensure that WEEE is managed in a way that protects the environment and minimizes risks to human health.
